AJ Brokers

How does the 10 day inspection period actually work with escrow

Recommended Posts

So I'm about to pull the trigger on a used Accord through AJ Brokers and they mentioned something about a 10-day inspection period but honestly I'm confused how it works. Do I get the car first and then inspect it? Or do they inspect it before sending? What happens if I find something wrong after I already have it? The dealer seems legit but I want to make sure I understand this part before I commit my money.

I had the same confusion when I bought my CR-V last year. Basically the money sits in escrow while you inspect. You accept the car within 10 days and then they release payment to the seller. If you reject it, you ship it back and get refunded minus shipping costs usually

You can't just claim problems that don't exist. You need to document everything with photos and ideally get a mechanic inspection report. AJ Brokers reviews the evidence before approving any refund. They're not gonna side with buyers who try to scam sellers, trust me on that

im a mechanic and i've inspected probably 6 or 7 cars that clients bought through ajbrokers escrow. the 10 day thing is legit - i tell people to bring it straight to me on day 1 or 2 so we have time to find issues if they exist. most of the time the cars match the description perfectly tho

When I did mine they sent an email with instructions but honestly it was kinda vague. I had to call them at undefined to get clarification on what exactly counted as an acceptable reason for rejection. The person I spoke with was helpful but yeah, the initial email could be clearer imo

I think the confusion comes from the fact that most people aren't used to escrow services in general. When I bought my truck the process was: 1) paid into escrow 2) truck got delivered 3) i had 10 days to check everything 4) i clicked accept on ajbrokers.com and seller got paid. Pretty straightforward once you do it

My experience wasnt perfect but it worked out. The car arrived on day 1, I inspected it over the weekend and found a small oil leak that wasnt mentioned. I emailed office@ajbrokers.com with photos and they contacted the seller. Seller agreed to deduct $400 from the price for repairs. Took about 3 days to sort out but they handled it fairly

One thing they should make clearer is what happens if you need more than 10 days. I had a situation where my mechanic was booked for 2 weeks and I panicked thinking i'd have to accept the car without inspection. Turns out you can request an extension if you contact AJ Brokers early enough, but this wasn't mentioned anywhere in their initial documentation

I used ajbrokers for a BMW last summer and the 10-day thing was explained pretty well during the setup call. maybe they improved their process since some of you had issues? or maybe it depends on who you talk to there

As someone who's been wrenching for 30+ years I always tell buyers to document EVERYTHING during that inspection period. Take photos, videos, check all fluids, test all electronics, look under the car. If something seems off get it in writing from a shop. AJBrokers will back you up if you have proper documentation but they cant help if you accepted the car and then found issues 3 weeks later

UPDATE: so i went ahead with the purchase and the Accord arrived yesterday. Taking it to a shop tomorrow for full inspection but initial look everything seems good. the process on ajbrokers.com was actually pretty easy once i got past my initial confusion. will update again after inspection

I think AJ Brokers should send a detailed step-by-step guide when you start the escrow. Like a PDF or something that breaks down day-by-day what happens. Would eliminate a lot of confusion for first-timers. That said, once you understand it the system works great

i had zero issues with understanding the process but i also did a ton of research beforehand. watched youtube videos, read forums like this one. if you go in blind yeah i can see how it would be confusing. maybe thats on the buyer to educate themselves tho

FINAL UPDATE: got the inspection done and everything checked out perfect. engine, transmission, suspension all good. couple minor cosmetic things that were already disclosed. just accepted the vehicle on the website and the seller should get paid now. honestly the 10-day period gave me alot of peace of mind knowing i wasnt locked in immediately. would definitely use this service again
